Sandy & Mark Stacey-Owners of Black Bear Winery

Sandy and Mark Stacey, owners of Black Bear Winery

The Black Bear Winery is looking forward to a new year!  Steps we've taken in 2008 towards the 'buy local' trend will yield benefits to our customers in 2009.  We are happy to be working with fruit growers as close as Oxford, Cortland and Homer.  They have great stuff.  We've also found wine bottles manufactured in Waterloo, NY and corks grown in the US.  Of course we don't travel to CA to pick up the corks, but we are using our own truck for other pickups and the deliveries.  The dollars saved buying local will keep our wine prices from rising.  This is important in today's world of skyrocketing prices and passing expenses on to consumers.  Try buying local; you too will like it.

2009 will bring another line of interesting wines to the Black Bear family.  We will soon be introducing cassis, cherry and apple cordials.  Due to its popularity, we have produced a new vintage of Sweet Amos and will be returning Sweet Summer Blueberry.  This spring we will be fermenting another floral wine- Apple Blossom.

Thank you for showing your appreciation of our creative efforts.  We will continue to strive for unique top quality wines, ciders and meads.  In 2009 we are also striving to provide our community with social events that are both entertaining and informational.

On March 14th, join the fun of a wine and food pairing event called "Pairing Sharing".  You bring a sampling of a dish you think pairs well with a Black Bear wine and put it out against other pairings.  All of the entrants and visitors sample the pairs and vote for their favorite.  It's great fun and tasty too!

On Feb 28th, we'll be introducing our popular mixed wine drinks.  While meeting  drinks such as Ruby Crested Jewel, Rising Moon, Snakebite and the Antioxidant Cocktail, share your favorite toasts!  Meet new drinks and toast a new year with friends!   Bottoms up!

Don't miss the Feb 14th Valentine's chocolate and wine pairing.  They will be made by local chocolatier, Elizabeth McColgin-Bachura, from Somethin' Sweet Gourmet.  This event is fun, a real sweetheart!  Watch for Full Moon Bonfire, Murder Mystery Theater and other get-togethers.  Plenty of opportunities for social fun.

Traveling to the Black Bear Winery- A note to GPS users:  We have had visitors call and tell us the winery is not where their system says it should be; or the GPS directed them "all over creation."  Please remember these devices are not always the most reliable source of information.  If you are unsure of directions, please call ahead or visit the website for clear accurate information.  On that note, we've had good response to the alternative "scenic route" to the winery.  Using Willard Road just north of Chenango Forks and turning right on Cloverdale is customer approved.

Upon arrival at the winery, you will be pleased to see our enlarged parking lot.  Once inside, you can shake off the upstate weather with a glass of wine, sitting by the woodstove.  We think these additions will make your visit to the Black Bear Winery comfortable and most enjoyable.  We are looking forward to serving you and your friends during 2009.  Let's all make 2009 a great year!

On a final note:  Music is the warmth and energy of the Black Bear.  Join one of the many music jam sessions.  SEE YOU THERE!
